About two years after I bought the paintings, and had placed the best in our collection, I sold thirteen of the remaining to a Swiss friend, Kurt Mettler, who was starting as a picture dealer in Paris. I sold the thirteen pictures for twenty dollars each. About five years ago, I needed the space in our storeroom and I sold twelve that were left over to Georges Keller for one hundred dollars each. Yesterday, at your show, I saw about a score of the paintings I had sold to Guillaume, Mettler and Keller, or had exchanged in Paris for paintings by other artists. The statement in your book on Soutine that Michel Georges-Michel functioned in my dealings with Zborowski is not true. I never could tolerate Michel - I insulted him every time he tried to talk to me. Yours very truly, /s/ Albert C. Barnes NEM
